Synopsis:
Account takeover is one of the more prevalent forms of fraud. It is the result of an attacker taking over another person’s account, first by gathering information about the intended victim. Estimates project that financial fraud resulting from account takeover attacks will exceed $1 billion this year. Motivated by financial gain, this has become an extremely lucrative, criminal business. Together, financial institutions along with security professionals, are struggling to fight the fraudsters behind increasingly sophisticated methods of attack.
But fraud takes many shapes and forms. And while in it’s most prominent form, its typically the result as the result of a financial motivation…it’s objective is not always financial gain. It has existed since the Beginning. An intentional deception made for personal gain…or to damage another individual. Often difficult to detect and even harder to defend against.
